Tracing Small Footprints Using a Child Tracking Device

A child tracking device enables parents and guardians to monitor the movements of their kids. These gadgets are usually very small, and can be attached to the child's clothing or shoes.

Children during their formative stages like to run around a lot, especially when they are outside the house. This very lively disposition may pose a big problem or annoyance to every parent or guardian if they are in a place where one could easily get lost through the crowds. Of course, the threat of one's child being kidnapped is also a great deciding factor why parents would buy a kid tracking device.

This dilemma could easily be remedied through the use of a child tracking device. The unit works by sending radio frequency (RF) signals to a base unit. When the child goes beyond the allowable range set by the user, the equipment carried by the parent would sound off an alarm. It would then proceed to locate the child.

Unfortunately, due to manufacturing errors and lapses in design, there were instances when the base unit pointed the parent to the wrong child as it responded to virtually all the radio frequencies that it detected. Kid tracking device producers have since corrected this mistake. Modern base units can now even detect several children all at the same time.

To GPS or not to GPS

The children tracking devices that are out in the market rely mainly on two technologies. There are units which use GPS to trace the location of a particular person. However, this technology is quite expensive for child-tracking purposes.

Non-GPS child monitoring devices use radio frequencies to detect a person. RF equipment is more compact and inexpensive compared to GPS units. Their diminutive size also makes them more durable. While GPS can effectively locate anybody or anything, it is not considered as the right and practical technology for tracking children. Although GPS can locate anything around the globe, kid tracking devices only need an average range of 300-500 feet in order to be useful and effective.

Kids are not the only possible beneficiaries of child tracking technology. Persons who are taking care of old people who have difficulty finding their way around, or those with children who are not completely mentally fit, will find the device very useful.
